Endocrinology Telehealth Appointments

Specialist endocrine care, wherever you live

Gold Coast Endocrinology offers secure video consultations for patients throughout Queensland and across Australia.

Telehealth can provide convenient access to specialist care without the time and expense of travelling—particularly for patients living in rural or regional areas, those with limited mobility, and people managing work or family commitments. Telehealth is suitable for many initial and follow-up consultations. If a physical examination is needed, we may recommend an in-person appointment or coordinate assessment with your local GP.

Telehealth consultations are conducted by Dr Aongus O’Brolchain, Specialist Endocrinologist, and provide the same time for detailed assessment, review of results and treatment planning as an in-person consultation.

Conditions commonly managed by telehealth

Telehealth may be suitable for the assessment and ongoing management of:

  • Diabetes, including continuous glucose monitoring and insulin-pump review

  • Thyroid and parathyroid disorders

  • Osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease

  • Pituitary and adrenal disorders

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome and menopausal hormonal health

  • Low testosterone, andrology and men’s hormonal health

  • Obesity and metabolic health

  • Lipid disorders and cardiovascular risk

  • Review and interpretation of blood tests, scans and treatment response

Most pathology requests, prescriptions and correspondence can be provided electronically. Reports and management plans can also be sent to your referring GP or other treating clinicians.

Referrals and Medicare rebates

A valid referral from a GP or another specialist is required to claim a Medicare rebate. GP referrals are generally valid for 12 months unless otherwise specified.

Appointments can be arranged without a referral; however, no Medicare rebate will be available.

Medicare rebates are available for eligible telehealth consultations with a valid referral. Video is the preferred format when replacing an in-person consultation, although telephone review may sometimes be clinically appropriate.
